A TikTok video showcases a pilot's perspective during an automatic landing in challenging weather conditions.

A video displaying the cockpit view of a plane landing autonomously during low visibility has gained popularity on TikTok. The video, captured by a pilot using sunglasses with integrated cameras, has garnered 198,000 views since its posting on December 30. The footage, taken on a commercial Airbus A320 flight approaching Zurich Airport in Switzerland, shows the plane navigating through fog and low visibility conditions.

The pilot, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that the landing was a Category 3 autoland, indicating an automatic landing due to restricted visibility. The pilot highlighted the increased monitoring required during low visibility approaches as the aircraft relies on automation for landing. Autoland, an automatic landing procedure initiated when pilots cede control to the autopilot, is employed in poor visibility situations like fog, mist, low clouds, blowing snow, haze, and dust storms. During such conditions, the autopilot utilizes an instrument landing system (ILS) to perform a pre-programmed landing on any runway equipped with the system
