The unnamed pilot faces fraud-related allegations following an investigation by Canada's Peel Regional Police. According to Air Canada, the pilot had been promoted to captain but did not possess a valid Airline Transport Pilot License , which is required under Canadian regulations for captains operating large commercial aircraft.
The issue was discovered during a certification review that uncovered discrepancies in the pilot's licensing records. Air Canada said the pilot was immediately removed from active duty and the matter was voluntarily reported to Transport Canada.
“Safety was not compromised by this incident,” Air Canada said in a statement, noting that all pilots undergo mandatory recurrent training every six months and annual flight evaluations conducted by certified Transport Canada check pilots. The pilot was fined an undisclosed amount by Transport Canada and is no longer employed by the airline. The airline added that it has strengthened its procedures for verifying pilot credentials, including additional reviews of original licensing documents issued by Transport Canada.
