Another group of Western Washington first responders are on their way to states damaged by Hurricane Helene.

While that storm develops in the Gulf of Mexico, members of the Washington State Task Force-1 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue are leaving Pierce County for the affected areas. The rest of the team of 50 people will fly to Atlanta on Monday. They will then be ready for deployment to either Florida or North Carolina.
“The team was last deployed to Hawaii in August 2023 for search and rescue efforts after fires in Lahaina, Maui, and Oregon in September 2020 for search and rescue efforts during wildfires in that state,” officials wrote.Last week, Caleb Freeman from the Redmond Fire Department deployed to Western North Carolina with 3 others. They are also part of the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.
