It’s nothing but full sunshine, comfortable temps, and low humidity all the way through the weekend. But the muggy air and sizzling temperatures are back in full force next week as we eye a possible third heat wave of the summer.Much of this summer has been marred by sweltering heat or flooding rain. That is what has made our current stretch of weather so satisfying: it has had none of that. August has been off to a quiet and pleasant start, with temperatures running cooler than normal on most days and less than a tenth of an inch of rain.Thankfully, our nice run of weather is not over. We’ll carry it into another gorgeous weekend, perfect for any outdoor plans you might have.Saturday’s Summer Streets is in Manhattan again this weekend and it is going to be spectacular from beginning to end. Morning temperatures start in the 60s, eventually reaching the mid 80s by peak heating of the day. And with our continued low humidity, those 80s are going to feel like 80s. It is perfect T-shirt weather, so get outside and enjoy it if you can; you could not ask for a better day. Sunday brings temperatures and humidity levels a bit higher, but not excessive. If you’re attending the Dominican Day parade along Sixth Avenue you’ll have another gem of a day with loads of sunshine. If you’ll be out of the city this weekend, the weather story is no different: warm, sunny, and dry. Whether you are headed down the shore, up to the Catskills, or even out of state there is nothing to worry about weather-wise. Just remember to apply sunscreen and stay hydrated. The rise in temperature and humidity becomes much more palpable on Monday. Dew points will reach the mid to upper 60s, creating a sticky and uncomfortable especially as temperatures climb back into the 90s. And that is where we will stay for several days next week. The elevated temperatures and humidity will make for heat indices into the mid to upper 90s. This level of heat for just one day is uncomfortable but facing a weeklong stretch of days like this can be dangerous. We’ll see that not only are the daytime temperatures sweltering, but the nighttime temperatures are providing little to no real relief from the heat. Expect Heat Advisories next week as we slog through what will likely be our next heat wave in the city. The extreme heat in the distance makes this weekend’s beautiful weather all-important. It’s fleeting, so take advantage of it while it lasts. Take that road trip down the shore, host that barbeque, read that book out on the patio — whatever summer activity you have been putting off, this is your weekend to do it. Nice summer weather is hardly ever a guarantee, and it won’t be long before autumn is here.
