Pietman Muller, a reader from Levubu, writes:
"Karlien suddenly pointed to the middle of the dam – a tiger fish had just launched itself out of the water and caught a swallow in flight! "And this photo shows an unsuccessful attack where the swallow gets away. We’ve seen this happen a few times since."Tiger fish hunting barn swallows is not a new phenomenon, although not many people know about it. In the late 1950s, game ranger TB Oatley recorded tiger fish preying on swallows at Lake Nyamiti in Ndumu Game Reserve in northern KZN. Later, fly-fishermen noticed similar behaviour in the Komatipoort area of the Lowveld.
