Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett left Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field after aggravating a rib injury. Backup quarterback Reed McKee stepped in and made his NFL debut, completing three of four passes, including two touchdowns. who started in Hurts’ place against the Cowboys and directed the team to a 24-7 halftime lead before leaving in the third quarter with a rib injury.

Pickett first sustained the rib injury in the fourth quarter against the Commanders when he took a shot from linebacker Bobby Wagner. He remained in the game, however, and then played with extra padding in the rib area against the Cowboys. Pickett said after the Eagles’ 41-7 victory that he aggravated the injury while running the “Tush Push” late in the first half. He scored on a sneak on the final play of the half and was wincing in pain afterward. “The sneaks were a little tough early on,” Pickett said. “All the bodies lying on top of you. I was feeling it a little bit then.” Pickett’s final series of the day was the Eagles’ first series of the second half during which he took hits to the ribs from Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa and edge rusher Micah Parsons. The latter hit knocked Pickett out of the game and allowed McKee to make his NFL debut. Cornerback Darius Slay said after Sunday’s game that Pickett’s ribs are fractured, but that has not been confirmed. McKee, meanwhile, made the most of his four passing chances against the Cowboys, completing three of them, including two for touchdowns. He became the first player in NFL history to throw for more than one touchdown with fewer than five attempts in his first career game. The first touchdown was for 20 yards to A.J. Brown and the second went for 25 yards to DeVonta Smith.
