Professional wrestling has taken over downtown Cleveland this weekend with WWE’s second-largest premium live event SummerSlam at Cleveland Browns Stadium being the centerpiece on Saturday Night. To kick off the weekend, WWE hosted Friday Night Smackdown at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
The night was action-packed, including the main event involving Cleveland’s own Johnny Gargano and his tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Bloodline for the Tag Team Championships. The match was a thriller with ups and downs throughout, but Johnny and Tommaso came up short and lost to the Bloodline to crown new champions.
Next up was Andrade beating Carmelo Hayes, Santos Escobar beating Apollo Crews, and The Unholy Union kept their Women’s Tag Team Championships against Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair following a disqualification in the match after Blair Davenport got involved. Cleveland native Logan Paul threw himself a homecoming celebration interrupted by LA Knight, his opponent at Summerslam for the United States Championship.
To conclude the night there were two dark main events for the crowd. Braun Strowman Vs. Chad Gable and The Judgement Day Vs. Cleveland’s own The Miz, and his partners R-Truth, Rey Mysterio, and Jey Uso. Overall, it was a good kickoff to the Summerslam weekend in Cleveland with Yeeting and Yeah chants going around.
