A genuine interest in getting to know these artists at a personal level is what informed the composition of the portraits. The result was a series of dreamy snapshots that broaden the concept of queer intimacy beyond its sexualized connotations.We visited Tarrah at her art studio on a Tuesday morning, sat down on the floor surrounded by her paintings, and smoked a joint.
Later, we walked back to her apartment, which was full of keepsakes and art pieces, both bought and gifted by other artists: a ceramic brain sitting on the bookshelf, the picture of a friend by the bathroom sink, photographs taped to the fridge, and lots of plants everywhere. “They’re all fake by the way,” they added as we sat down on the couch. There, looking out into the window, Tarrah was photographed glowing in the sunlight.Eliana led us away from the city and into Lake Murray.
