Japan detected at least a total of nine Russian and Chinese naval vessels sailed in waters near the country.
Japan intercepted multiple Russian and Chinese warships sailing close to the country since Saturday as the quasi-allies increased naval activities in the region recently.The Joint Staff Office under Japan's Defense Ministry regularly reported the movements of foreign navies near the country. The latest announcements covered the period from Saturday to Monday, involving four Russian ships and five Chinese vessels.
The presence of Jinxing in the wider Pacific comes as the United States and Australia held international exercises separately. They are in the Rim of the Pacific in Hawaii from June 27 to August 1 and the Pitch Black in northern Australia from July 12 to August 2.The last four Chinese ships transited northward in waters around Japan's southwestern islands on Monday.
