A NASA satellite captured rare images of Southern California mountains blanketed in snow, after a powerful storm system swept through bringing blizzard warnings, torrential rains and strong winds.
In the San Bernardino Mountains, some towns are still trapped under feet of snow and highways and roads are just reopening. The Operational Land Imager-2 on Landsat 9 acquired this image of the San Gabriel Mountains in areas north of Los Angeles on February 10, 2023 before strong storms swept through the area.
NASA’s Landsat 9 satellite captured dramatically different images of the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles on Feb. 26. This is compared to photos taken of the same area on Feb. 10. Rain and low temps are expected in the region throughout the week, which could mean even more snow in the hard-hit mountain areas.
