A photo of a Chinese journalist who uncovered a contaminated milk powder scandal in 2008 has surfaced in social media posts falsely identifying him as a different reporter who revealed a cooking oil scandal in July. Jian Guangzhou confirmed he was the man in the picture and not fellow journalist Han Futao.
"Please remember his name: Han Futao! He is the chief reporter of The Beijing News," read a simplified Chinese Weibo post from July 10, 2024.
"He was the one who revealed that tanker trucks carrying coal oil were directly used to ship cooking oil, an incident that affects the health of the whole population. He is a hero, show him respect, don't let a hero remain unknown!"in July into the use of containers carrying coal oil to also transport cooking oil with no cleaning in between journeys -- in what it called an"open secret" in the transportation industry and the photo published by Nanchang University .
