Phoenix Suns are “exploring” options with Chris Paul going into the offseason, sources tell The Republic. Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes tweeted the Suns are waiving the future first-ballot Hall of Famer, but Paul currently is on the roster, sources say.
The Suns acquired Paul via trade from Oklahoma City going into the 2020-21 season. He proved to be the catalyst in Phoenix's run to the 2021 NBA Finals in his first season with the team. The Suns posted the best record in the league with a franchise-best 64-18 mark last season with Paul as the starting point guard. He led the league in assists for the fifth time in his career at 10.8 per game.
Phoenix went 45-37 this past 2022-23 season. The Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four first round picks and a pick swap to Brooklyn for Kevin Durant and T.J. Warren right before the Feb. 9 trade deadline. "It's a business, it's a business," Paul said back in February."I've seen crazier. The way I found out I was traded from Houston. You just show up to work and be a pro day in and day out. Nobody's exempt from being traded. Find out just like everybody else.""Just keep going to work," Paul said."Also understanding teams are always going to do what's best for them. That's why players have to do the same.
The Suns advanced to the conference semifinals again, but lost to No. 1-seeded Denver in six games. Paul missed the final four games of the series with a groin injury suffered in the second half of Game 2 in Denver.
