PHOENIX — A Phoenix man has been sentenced to prison after he used Valley bookstores to sneak drugs into correctional facilities.
Julius Dixon, 54, was sentenced to 51 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute controlled substances, according toBetween 2023 and 2024, the defendant conspired with federal inmates to mail books containing hidden strips of Suboxone, which is used to treat narcotic dependence.
Dixon used unwitting bookstores in the Phoenix area to circumvent prison security since it appeared inmates were ordering the books directly from the stores. Officials were tipped off about the scheme after staff at a Virginia prison located several Suboxone strips inside a bible that appeared to have been mailed from Arizona, court records show.Investigators uncovered Dixon's connection to the packages after he had given his name and phone number to the bookstores.
