MANILA, Philippines: Phoenix stepped on the gas in the second half to pull away from a tight contest en route to a runaway 94-78 triumph over Terrafirma for the team's first win the Season 48 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.Veteran guard RR Garcia exploded with a double-double effort of 20 points, 10 assists along with six rebounds, triggering the Fuel Masters' strong 55-34 second half exchange for their first victory after a 0-2 conference start.
Phoenix again played without starting playmaker Tyler Tio, but Garcia ably stepped up the plate, while also drawing big numbers from veteran forward Jason Perkins, Larry Muyang and Ken Tuffin.The Fuel Masters also took advantage of the absence of Filipino-American guard Stephen Holt, who did not play, leaving the Dyip without one of their top weapons in the game.
