The 'Get Out the Bike Lane' legislation prohibits drivers from stopping, standing or parking on any dedicated Philadelphia bike lane and increases fineson Thursday unanimously passed legislation aimed at handing out hefty fines to illegally-parked drivers in hopes of protecting bicyclists on city streets.
Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson spoke Thursday about a new bill that would increase fines and change rules to prevent parking in Center City and University City bike lanes. “When we keep vehicles and people from blocking bike lanes city wide, we can make streets safer for everyone,” Johnson said at the time of the bill being introduced. “I will continue to work with the Philadelphia Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems and Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration to explore what additional safety measures can be installed for cyclists throughout the Second Council District and citywide.
