City employees in Philadelphia began working in-person full time again on Monday.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker speaks with the media following a shooting in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. The workers returned to their offices after a trial court judge ruled against a union seeking to block Mayor Cherelle Parker ’s order requiring in-person work.

The union claimed the issue wasn’t resolved and pledged to negotiate with the city through arbitration. Parker has argued that in-person government workers can better serve Philadelphians, noting in her announcement of the order that employees could benefit from being in the office. The mayor added that diversity, equity, inclusion and equal employment opportunities would result from the change.
