“Lunar New Year brings together all different ethnicities, and I have the privilege of being in the intersection,” Phillip Lim said during a lavish dinner party in celebration of the new year.

“The purpose of these family dinners is to celebrate and uplift our community and show our humanity,” Lim said during cocktail hour at the swanky new 53 NYC restaurant in midtown Manhattan. “I hope that people here leave the night with seeded conversations that lead to action. Lunar New Year brings together all different ethnicities, and I have the privilege of being in the intersection.

As the 70 well-dressed invitees settled in their seats for an elegant dinner, performers dressed in Chinese lion costumes marched into the dinning room, mimicking a lion’s movements while accompanied by drummers. The lion dancers even bit the attendees on the head to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. Then, guests were gifted bright red envelopes with a crisp one-dollar bill inside to symbolize good fortune for the new year ahead.

Throughout the evening, the glamorous guests laughed, mingled, and shared animated stories, conjuring up a boisterous party. Lim was busy making the rounds and posed for multiple selfies with friends against a stunning painting calledthat features the entire family of Zodiac animals. Elements of the artwork will appear on limited Lunar New Year editions of Hennessy bottles.Across the room, Gurung spoke to Kim at the bar. The two chatted and shared a few giggles.

Gurung, who is presenting his latest runway collection on the first day of New York Fashion Week on February 10, is happy that breakouthas been wearing his designs for multiple press engagements and at red-carpet events. The Emmy winner, in particular, received lots of praise for wearing his multi-colored feather dress to the ESPYS last summer. “She has a lot of choices, and so for her to choose my stuff, I feel grateful,” Gurung said.
