The Phillies have signed Jesus Luzardo to a five-year, $135 million extension, keeping the left-hander in Philadelphia through the 2031 season.
Jesús Luzardo allowed two hits, no runs, no walks, and had five strikeouts through three innings against the Red Sox on Thursday afternoon. The Phillies have signed pitcher Jesus Luzardo to a five-year contract extension, a person with knowledge of the transaction told NBC Sports Philadelphia on Monday, confirming an initial report by ESPN.
Luzardo’s new deal covers seasons 2027 through 2031 and is worth $135 million, a source told NBC Sports Philadelphia. The 28-year-old left-hander would have been eligible to become a free agent after the 2026 season. Luzardo will make $11 million this season. The Phillies acquired Luzardo in a December 2024 trade with the Miami Marlins. At the time, Luzardo was coming off a back injury that limited him to just 12 starts in 2024. He rebounded nicely with the Phillies in 2025, stayed healthy the entire season, and went 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA in 32 starts. He pitched a career-high 183 2/3 innings and struck out 216, also a career high. He finished seventh in National League Cy Young voting. Luzardo’s 2025 season included two poor starts in which it was determined he was tipping pitches. He allowed 20 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in those back-to-back starts. Remove those outings, and he pitched to a 3.03 ERA in 30 starts. With Luzardo on board, the Phillies have five starters under control beyond this season – Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez, Aaron Nola, Andrew Painter and Luzardo. All but Wheeler are under control beyond 2027.This article tagged under:
