The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport) predicts Philippine exports of goods and services will reach $110 billion in 2025. Philexport President Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr. attributes this projection to the export sector's resilience despite lacking sufficient government support, including funding for international trade fairs, product development, and promotions. This lack of support could hinder the country from achieving the higher targets set in the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2023 to 2028, which aims for $163.6 billion in exports by 2025.
Philippine exports of goods and services are seen to reach $110 billion in 2025 with the country’s exporters “living through chance” due to the lack of support from the government, among others, according to the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. .
“So we shouldn’t be surprised na iniiwanan tayo ng mga katabi natin,” Philexport President Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr. told the BusinessMirror in a phone interview on Monday. She earlier explained that they might temper down the projections for exports as it contains “more ambitious” targets compared to the targets set in the Philippine Development Plan 2023 to 2028.
Under the country’s export development plan, these are the targets: For 2024, $143.4 billion; 2025, $163.6 billion; 2026, $186.7 billion; 2027, $212.1 billion and 2028, $240.5 billion.
