Gio van Bronckhorst watched the Hibees dismantle his side while Beale was given given scare in his first game.
Gio van Bronckhorst suffered in the stand when my old team clattered him out of the League Cup in the Hampden semi-final. Michael Beale got a major scare as Hibs led at Ibrox and came close to ruining his first Rangers game. Now it’s Philippe Clement and Montgomery I’m sure will be relishing the chance to ruin the Ibrox boss’ big day.
But Clement isn’t Harry Potter. He’s not got a magic wand. This is a Rangers team dismissed by Aberdeen in their last home game then lost to a bang-average team from Cyprus in the Europa League. I can recount days at Ibrox and the teamsheet comes into the dressing room – Frank de Boer, Ronald de Boer, Barry Ferguson, Mikel Arteta, Claudio Cannigia, Shota Arveladze. You’re thinking, ‘How are we going to get a result here?’
It doesn’t matter if it’s a new manager. If Hibs score first Clement is going to feel it and Montgomery doesn’t look to me like a manager who is going to back down. In some respects he is still going through his own honeymoon period in the job and that fightback against Hearts in their last outing was a massive result.
