The Philadelphia Union have signed 18-year-old forward Eddy Davis to a first-team contract as a homegrown player. Davis, who led the Union's reserve team with 14 goals last season, becomes the latest highly-regarded prospect to join the Union's growing roster. Davis' impressive performance last season, playing as an amateur, caught the attention of scouts and coaches alike. His journey to the Union is a testament to his talent and perseverance.
He started in the Los Angeles area before moving to the New York Red Bulls academy in early 2022. However, he quickly transitioned to the Union after a few months, attracting the attention of coach Bradford Jamieson IV, a former highly-touted youth player himself. Jamieson, who knew Davis from Southern California soccer circles, connected him with the Union. This signing brings the Union's forward corps to six. With starters Mikael Uhre and Tai Baribo, veteran backup Chris Donovan, and newcomers Markus Anderson, Nelson Pierre, and now Davis, the Union have a strong attacking depth. The future of Nelson Pierre, currently not with the team in their preseason camp in Spain, remains uncertain. Manager Bradley Carnell stated that the staff would determine his role later on. If Nelson Pierre does not stay with the team, there would be room for another starting-caliber striker to join the rotation.Meanwhile, Davis' younger brother Neil Pierre, a 17-year-old center-back, is also highly regarded within the organization. He is considered one of the best centerbacks in the history of the Union, which has produced U.S. national team regulars Mark McKenzie and Auston Trusty. While a contract announcement for Neil Pierre is expected, it remains unconfirmed. As of now, the Union are concluding their preseason camp in Spain with a scrimmage against Danish club AGF on Sunday. They will return to Chester for a few days before heading to Clearwater, Florida, for further warm-weather training. Their preseason schedule includes scrimmages against FC Cincinnati on February 7th and the USL Championship's Rhode Island FC, Tampa Bay Rowdies, and the University of South Florida in February. The MLS season kicks off on February 22nd with the Union visiting Orlando City. Their home opener is scheduled for March 1st against Cincinnati
