Daily News | Philadelphia’s First Bank of U.S. to re-open as museum in 2026

An inside look at the First Bank of the United States, which is set to reopen as a museum in time for the nation's 250th birthday celebration in 2026.After years of lobbying for the renovation of the First Bank of the United States building, thewas awarded $22.2 million in federal funding to turn the Old City landmark into a museum about the early phases of the American economy.

The Greek Revival-style building, located at 120 S. 3rd St., was built in 1795 as part of Alexander Hamilton’s vision for a national financial system that tied the newly established states together. The white stone structure, now overseen by the National Park Service, was the precursor to the Federal Reserve.

The facade of the building will largely be kept intact, but the building’s weathered marble will be updated and the roof and the broken supports will be replaced. “We want to preserve everything is historic, and of the period it was built in 1795,” DeNadai said.
