Philadelphia activates code blue and establishes 20 warming centers citywide as temperatures plummet.

Philadelphia is experiencing an extended code blue , prompting the city to increase resources for its most vulnerable residents. Despite the frigid temperatures, people continued their daily routines along Kelly Drive, jogging and biking. Managing Director Adam Thiel announced an initiative that includes 20 warming centers in each council district, offering 24/7 service. Thiel explained that the locations and programs may vary between day and night due to staffing and programming reasons.

Inside the Juniata Older Adult Center, one of the designated warming centers, resident Rose Bell highlighted the importance of these facilities for those without alternative accommodations. Meanwhile, PECO reported minor power outages due to the cold weather and advised customers to conserve energy and improve insulation
