Philadelphia's reinstatement of the mask mandate will begin Monday, one week after it was announced the requirement would return due to a rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
Despite public frustration and a pending lawsuit, Philadelphia is reinforcing its indoor mask mandate Monday. The department said coronavirus casesin a ten-day span in the city where there's now an average of 142 new cases per day, according to Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole. While hospitalizations remain low, Bettigole says Philadelphia no longer meets the threshold for the All Clear tier.
It also accuses city health officials of having "usurped the power and authority" of state lawmakers.
