Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni had thoughts on criticism directed at Jonathan Gannon during the NFL playoffs.
He was a finalist for the Texans’ head coaching job before Houston hired Lovie Smith in 2022 and DeMeco Ryans this year. Gannon previously coached with the Atlanta Falcons , Tennessee Titans , Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts . He also spent three years as a scout with the then-St. Louis Rams .
Gannon’s defense allowed only one offensive touchdown in the first half during Super Bowl 57, but gave up 24 second-half points and allowed game MVP Patrick Mahomes to lead the Chiefs on a 12-play, 66-yard drive late in the fourth quarter that culminated with a game-winning field goal by Harrison Butker.
During his comments about Gannon after the Eagles' win over the Giants in the Divisional Round in January, Sirianni envisioned Gannon getting a head coaching job. "This guy is incredible," Sirianni said, according to Sports Illustrated."He's going to be a head football coach in the National Football League because of what he does. This guy is a stud. He's a stud."The Republic's Bob McManaman contributed to this story.
