Opponents of a new arena in downtown Saskatoon have failed to articulate a scenario for the future. But they should consider the past.

At the same time, an aging venue will require more and pricier upkeep. So it will one day become a taxpayer liability just like Saskatoon Arena did.
The refurbishment of Climate Pledge Arena, where the Seattle Kraken play, cost US$1.15 billion — more than twice the cost of building Edmonton’s new downtown arena, Rogers Place at $Cdn$483.5 million .
