As offensive as the grim numbers facing Saskatoon city hall and taxpayers are, two city councillors seem determined to outdo them. yxe yxecc
The numbers are truly staggering; the city faces an operating shortfall of $52.4 million next year and $23.2 million in 2025.
The largest driver of the current increases can be traced to inflation — $30.5 million of the 2024 funding gap and $15 million in 2025.Article content Even if $24.2 million was cut from the 2024 budget, the property tax jump would still be 10 per cent. With a deeper cut of $35.5 million, the tax hike would be six per cent, the second highest this century. So some tough decisions truly do lie ahead about reducing services, which stand to be extremely unpopular, too. And remember that these increases do not include the new green cart program for single-family homeowners, who have started paying for that separately through a utility fee.
