That strike by faculty and staff at Rutgers put the governor in a tough position; he poses as the friend of organized labor but he hasn't put his money where his mouth is

If these strikers aren’t contacting a liberal Democrat, then where are they going to get support for increased spending?The Democrats control both houses of the Legislature by comfortable margins, said O’Scanlon, who sits on the Budget Committee. That’s not necessarily a blessing for the governor, he said.
Both noted that Murphy’s proposed budget has a $5 billion surplus thanks to all the COVID aid New Jersey has received. The governor has hinted he’ll use some of that swag to support a settlement of the strike.
