THE United States Marine Corps (USMC) and Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) will conduct a 'maritime strike' on a decommissioned ship in San Antonio, Zambales, which will be the highlight of their bilateral training as part of Marine Aviation Support Activity (MASA) 23 that will start on Thursday, July 6.
In an interview, Philippine Marines spokesman and MASA public affairs officer Capt. Jarald Rea said the decommissioned ship that will be the subject of the maritime strike on July 13 is BRP Lake Caliraya.He said a US aircraft would 'target' BRP Caliraya.Rea said 1,257 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel and 1,444 US troops will take part in the exercise. There will also be 1,015 reservists who will join the training, he said.
The bilateral exercise aims to increase the PMC and USMC's interoperability and improve aviation-related capabilities in support of US-Philippine mutual defense.Rea said training side by side increases combined military capability and sparks friendship, which directly contributes to the strength of the US and Philippine alliance.
