The Philippines’ daily number of coronavirus disease cases remains less than a thousand after the presence of the Omicron variant was detected.

Based on the case bulletin issued Saturday, Dec. 18, the Department of Health said that 291 new COVID-19 infections were logged, pushing the country’s cumulative total to 2,837,555. Of the total, 0.3 percent or 9,924 are active cases or those who are still recuperating. The DOH said 3,854 of the active cases are experiencing mild symptoms, 3,388 are in moderate condition, 1,799 have severe symptoms, 501 are asymptomatic, and 382 are in critical condition.

The death toll soared to 50,675— which is 1.79 percent of the total case count — when 106 more people died. However, 523 more patients were able to survive. The recovery count stood at 2,776,956 or 97.9 percent of the total tally of confirmed cases.
