THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said the Philippines and China will meet in Beijing 'sometime in May' for preparatory talks on gas and oil joint exploration.
The DFA said the upcoming meeting is in light of the joint statement issued by Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his state visit to Beijing last January 5, on the agreement 'to resume discussions on oil and gas development at an early date.''The meeting will discuss parameters and terms of reference,' said DFA spokesman Ma. Teresita Daza in a statement.Daza also said that Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo has assured Sen.
He said the DFA should consider the 2016 Hague Arbitral ruling and the recent Supreme Court decision which invalidated the 2005 Tripartite Agreement for Joint Marine Seismic Undertaking before entering into another partnership with China. The senator also said that since the matter involves foreign policy and national security, it is only proper that the Senate must be involved in any future exploratory talks with China.
