With the relations between the Philippines and China now at the “renaissance” stage, Malacañang is optimistic about the resolution of disputes between the two neighboring countries and their enhanced partnership for economic growth.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque highlighted the robust relations between the Philippines and China as the two allies marked the 45th year of diplomatic relations on June 9. The milestone in Philippine-China ties also coincides with the observance of Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day.

“We hope that this renaissance will lead to better relations, resolving all the disputes that we have between our two countries, increased economic ties, increased prosperity for both Philippines and China,” he added. The Duterte administration has opted to pursue bilateral dialogue to manage the territorial conflict while enhancing economic and defense ties with China.Meantime, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said the China-funded infrastructure projects in the country will be “pursued relentlessly” once the coronavirus lockdown has eased.

“These are mutually beneficial projects. Certainly these will all resume once we get back to the new normal and basically after all these quarantines and lockdowns,” he added.
