Hundreds of handmade Valentine’s Day cards delivered more than just messages of love this weekend. They delivered community and hope to children with rare and undiagnosed medical conditions across Central Texas.
, hosted its annual Project Valentine on Sunday, February 9, 2026. Community volunteers from schools, service organizations, businesses, and families across the country and even from Spain, created personalized cards for children enrolled in CC4C’s Spotlight Program.Gigi was diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, a rare chromosomal deletion that affects expressive and receptive language, cognitive development, and motor skills. She also has autism. While Gigi faces academic, social, attention, and physical challenges, her family says she continues to make remarkable progress. Despite her medical challenges, Gigi’s personality shines. She loves light purple, princesses, singing, dancing, swimming, live theater, and art projects. She especially enjoys spending time with her older sister June, 13. As part of CC4C’s Dream Team program, Gigi is an honorary member of the Hendrickson High School Silver Dancers in Pflugerville ISD. The team surprised her Sunday afternoon at her home, delivering large boxes of Valentine’s cards, a teddy bear, and plenty of hugs. “I think that the relationship that Gigi has with the Silver Dancers is so fulfilling for her,” said her mom, Sarah Graham. “It makes her feel really a part of something energetic and fun and unique.” Graham says the sense of community CC4C provides has been essential. “When your child has a rare disease, it can feel really isolating, and that being a part of both Project Valentine and CC4C, the biggest thing has been community and community just helps you feel less alone and also feel seen in a world that is not always meant for people that are different,” she said. Sarah added this comment about being a part of CC4C, "I think the most important thing is that when the world feels like it's not built for your child and that they have to adapt to the world that it can feel so healing to be in a space that is adapted to them rather than the other way around." CC4C supports families beyond moments like Project Valentine. The organization provides peer support for parents, activities for siblings, uplifting events for children, and financial reimbursements for medical costs not covered by insurance.
