Two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Peter Gabriel played a three-hour set that focused on his new and as yet unreleased album 'i/o' at his show Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

is a restless, creative soul. The 73-year-old singer-songwriter could easily chill and shill in cruise-controlled legacy mode, celebrating/milking the anniversaries of his beloved early albums. Hey, his second album, a.k.a “Scratch” turned 45 this year , and his massive breakthrough hit album, “So,” hits 37 this year, which is close to both 35 and 40, so he could just pick a number and hit the road.

Throughout 2023, Gabriel has been releasing singles from his as-yet-unreleased 10th studio album, “i/o,” on the full moon each month, so the 10th song should be coming in a day or two. It will be Gabriel’s first studio release since “Up” in 2002. While many folks in the arena seemed to have been keeping with Gabriel’s release plan and were at least familiar with the new songs, there were stretches, particularly in the “i/o” packed first set, where the audience’s collective mind appeared to wander a bit. This happened despite the constant stream of cool, artistic and thematic images and films projected on a giant circular screen directly above the band and nine more movable rectangular screens behind them.
