Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Monday that legislators who rejected Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, as House speaker “would be supportive of my candidacy” for the post.

Sessions, who is 1 of 9 lawmakers vying to become the next speaker of the House, told “National Report” that “I believe that I have that ability” to win enough votes to become speaker. He added: “I've looked at these people who have voted for someone else. I've talked to a good number of them, and I believe that we will be able to secure that. But first you have to win the nomination, and I believe that I can move forward with discussions that I have had with plenty of them who would be supportive of my candidacy.”

When asked how he would handle border security if he were elected speaker, Sessions said that President Joe Biden has “initiated some efforts to rebuild the wall, I think that’s an indication that there’s an opening there to have, not just the discussion, but to put it into law with the and to find this common ground.”

He continued, “I would push for that; we must solve our border issue, the fentanyl problem … and we’ve got to support our federal law enforcement.”Theodore Bunker | [email protected] Theodore Bunker, a Newsmax writer, has more than a decade covering news, media, and politics.
