A dull Saturday at Citi Field got a little more juice in the bottom of the eighth inning after Pete Alonso was hit in the back of the neck by a Jose Soriano curveball, leading to the benches clearing as the Mets lost 5-3.
Alonso, who initially went down, seemed to be OK but exited the game with a trainer as Danny Mendick pinch-ran for him at first base. He was listed as having a neck injury. Benches cleared — but no punches thrown — after Pete Alonso is hit near the back of his neck with a José Soriano curveball. Alonso had some words for Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe after the pitch. He was then removed for a pinch-runner.
