In the end, longtime Supervisor Aaron Peskin broke the six-vote threshold and was elected to the post. With Peskin voting for himself,. Supervisors Connie Chan, Catherine Stefani, Matt Dorsey, Joel Engardio, Rafael Mandelman and Myrna Melgar supported Peskin, while supervisors Dean Preston, Hillary Ronen and Ahsha Safaí voted for Shamann Walton — the outgoing board president, who also voted for himself throughout the 17 rounds of voting..
When nominating himself for the position, Peskin said he was throwing his hat into the ring to stave off getting to the"magic number" 15th round of voting, a reference to the historic number of ballots it took for
