A Perthshire campaigner given infected blood in the 1980s - in a widespread scandal that has since been deemed avoidable - said victims feel cheated all over again.

Compensation details for those affected by what has been labelled the biggest treatment disaster in the NHS were announced in the Commons the following day. “There is an absence of government in effect – not only for the six weeks of the election campaign, but Parliament will return for two to three weeks, and then there is the summer recess. It certainly hasn’t helped the process.

“I am pleased that it seems to totally vindicate them and confirms they have been treated appallingly by the health establishment.“It is the worst combination of incompetence, cover up, obfuscation and failure to take responsibility. It is tough reading for all involved in this sorry tragedy.
