Scores of properties next to the North Inch are said to have been flooded after floodgates were only closed on Sunday
An MSP has demanded compensation for Perth flood victims after "an appalling error" led to Perth and Kinross Council failing to close the North Inch floodgates in time.
One version of PKC's Facebook statement posted on Sunday, October 8 - which was amended - read: "SEPA has issued a severe flood warning for Perth, from the North Inch to Friarton Bridge. "As a result, householders in Barossa Place and Rose Terrace in Perth are suffering as a result and are paying the price of Perth and Kinross Council’s flood management system."
"I see the council have now deleted their claim from yesterday that it was the fault of SEPA for a delay in advising of a storm warning. One Commercial Street resident - who got flooded out of their home and has asked to remain anonymous - said: "It's just an absolute nightmare. I phoned them asked them to close the floodgates on Saturday night and they refused."
"I know how distressing this has been for those who have had their homes and businesses flooded; particularly in Perth which seems to have gotten it the worst, and where flooding has become a regular occurrence. All available resources must now be mobilised as part of the recovery efforts. "I have raised these concerns already with Perth and Kinross Council, and I think it is important that the council engage with all affected parties regarding this matter."
