NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has made his clearest pledge to date that he will “never” privatise any more public assets in a wide-ranging exclusive interview with Sky News Australia.

The state government has faced intense public backlash over its decision to privatise public projects such as WestConnex despite making repeated pledges in the past that it would not sell off key assets.would turn its eyes towards Sydney Water.

“In relation to those other assets, no one has ever talked about that, that is a Mediscare campaign from Labor. “I haven’t said there are no plans, I’ve completely ruled that out, it has never been something that has ever been considered by our government or ever would be," he said. After pledging no more privatisation ahead of the 2019 election, then-treasurer Mr Perrottet in the Berejiklian government sold off the state’s remaining stake in WestConnex for $11 billion.

But NSW Labor leader Chris Minns slammed the government’s “grossly reckless” plans to rely on further debt to fund multi-billion public projects.During the second leaders’ debate, Mr Minns said the additional debt obligations which will come from new government infrastructure would force the Premier back into privatisation.
