This storage method promises that onions won't go mouldy
If you are looking for a way to store your onions so they last for as long as possible, food blog Bon Appetit has suggested the perfect place. Bon Appetit said: 'Moisture and light lead to mould and sprouting, so stow your storage onions in a dry, well-ventilated basket, bin, or large bowl. 'Keep them out of the sun and in a cool but not freezing locale with some air circulation.
For those without a basket or paper bag suitable for storing onions, Shop Food Waste suggests using a net or mesh bag which encourages airflow and reduces moisture. Alternatively, a perforated basket or bin could also serve well for this purpose. And should you be without any such storage solutions, an old pair of tights could do the trick. Simply insert onions into one leg, tying knots after each onion before moving up.
