Perak Environment Dept issues fines worth RM200k

GOPENG: The Perak Environment Department has issued compound worth about RM200,000 following anti-pollution enforcement operations here.

Its director Rosli Zul said some 102 compounds were issued after checks were conducted on 80 factories and premises during the three-day operation between March 9 and 12."We've also opened three investigations papers," he told reporters at its branch office here on Thursday .

"In one of the premises it was recommended that its operations be suspended until it sorts out its waste management system properly," he added.These, he said, included 46 oil palm factories, four latex factories and 30 licensed scheduled waste processing plants," he said, adding that the operation involved some 40 enforcement officers.

"We are taking a more serious approach towards this matter, and will be conducting three more operations this year," he added.
