Man City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Wolves at Molineux.
Pep Guardiola might have discovered who his best player is while watching on from the stands as Manchester City were surprisingly beaten by plucky Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. Spoiler alert: it is not Norway goal machine Erling Haaland.
After holding aloft three trophies in a truly memorable season, Gundogan called time on his City career and opted to move to Barcelona this summer. De Bruyne - who was initially passed the armband - lasted 23 minutes on the opening night before limping down the tunnel at Turf Moor. Without the 27-year-old in their side, City have been defeated five times in 15 matches, while they have only been beaten in five of the 67 appearances he has made in that particular competition. No wonder Guardiola labelled him as the best midfielder in Europe before, jokingly, backtracking on that after his avoidable, recent red card.
