People who trust their gut are suckers for ‘bulls–t’ conspiracy theories: scientists

For many people, what they feel is true must be reality, simply because they feel it is.

If you trust your gut when deciding if a statement is true or false, maybe that’s just because lizard aliens are running the country.

“I think many people who emphasize a more relativistic view of what truth is mean well,” Julia Aspernäs, PhD student in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Learning at Linköping University in Sweden,“They believe that it’s important that everyone should be able to make their voice heard. But these results show that such a view can actually be quite dangerous,” Aspernäs added.

The researchers also collected information on factors like the ability to reason analytically, political orientation, age, gender and educational level.under the compelling title “Misperceptions in a post-truth world: Effects of subjectivism and cultural relativism on bulls–t receptivity and conspiracist ideation,” reveal some interesting conclusions.Getty Images
