The new claims process is now available online for people in certain postcode areas in England.
People making a new claim for Personal Independence Payment may be able to complete the entire application online after the launch of a new digital process. It’s important to note that new claims for PIP have been replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment which is a similar benefit offering financial support to working age people with a disability, long-term illness or physical or mental health condition.
More than 500 health conditions are supported by both benefits, however it's important to be aware that it is not the conditions itself that determines an award, but how it affects you on a daily basis. This is a key detail for those with fluctuating conditions as case managers north and south of the border will take into account all the information a new claimant provides to make an informed decision.
Even though new claims for PIP have been replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment, it will follow the same eligibility criteria, but take a more ‘people-centric’ approach, according to Social Security Scotland - find out more about claiming on MyGov.Scot here. You usually need to have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years and be in the country when you apply.
