Emergency services were very busy following a huge number of antisocial behaviour incidents on both Mischief Night and Halloween

Merseyside Police are being given extra powers on Bonfire Night after youths wreaked havoc in Merseyside on Mischief Night and Halloween.

On Halloween issues continued with a number of buses being damaged by youths causing antisocial behaviour and criminality in West Derby, Maghull and Huyton. Following these issues, Merseyside Police has put eight dispersal zones in place to try and combat antisocial behaviour. In Sefton, six dispersal orders are in place from Saturday, November 4, in Aintree, Maghull, Waterloo, Crosby, Formby and Southport with various times in place. Aintree's zone will be in place from 4pm tomorrow until 11.59pm on Sunday, November 5.

A zone will be in Waterloo from 3pm tomorrow until 3pm Monday, November 6. The dispersal zone will cover South Road, Victoria Park and Marine Gardens area. The zone will cover the area bounded by Brooke Road East, Marine Gardens, Cambridge Road and Crosby Road North. Southport's zone will be in place from 3pm tomorrow until 3pm Monday, November 6. The dispersal zone will Marine Drive, Esplanade, Promenade, Coronation Walk, Portland Street, Talbot Street, Eastbank Street, Virginia Street, Southport Railway Station, Hall Street, Hawkshead Street, Queens Road, Park Road, Park Road West, Promenade and Fairway.

Commander for the policing operation, Chief Inspector Duncan Swan said: “Please be assured that our officers will continue to provide a high visibility presence over the weekend. Stop searches will be carried out and large groups of people will be dispersed so that they behave responsibly and our communities are kept safe.
