Speedster Yaw Penxe scored two tries as the Sharks bounced back to winning ways, beating Western Province at Kings Park on Sunday.

Smarting from last week’s disappointing reverse against Griquas, the Sharks dominated territory and possession on Sunday to open with 13 unanswered points and close out the first half with a 13-7 lead.

The Sharks attack produced only seven points in the second stanza but their defence denied WP access to the scoreboard for a 20-7 victory. Penxe crossed the whitewash first, going over in the corner before wing Phiko Sobahle dotted down off the back of some sketchy Province defence. Flyhalf Fred Zeilinga unable to convert either of the tries but adding a solitary penalty. The visitors hit back through wing Fazeel Robertson who bagged a fortuitous try on debut after a howler from Marnus Potgieter under the high ball. Robertson’s converted try was all that WP have to show for their efforts in this match.

The Durbanites continued to pile on the pressure after the break, spending extended periods of time in the WP 22 but lacked the attacking spark to convert, as the contest entered the final quarter with no second-half points to show.Penxe then grabbed his second of the afternoon and the final points of the match, chasing to successfully gather his kick after Godlen Masimla and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu collided to hand Penxe the easiest of tries.

The Sharks will now travel to Joburg to face a youthful Lions side while Western Province will look forward to hosting Griquas in the next round.
