The first well-known spotting of a UFO was in 1947 in Washington.
Also known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena , UFOs are objects seen in the sky that cannot be immediately identified. This could mean any type of object or optical phenomenon, however, over the decades the term UFO has been linked with extraterrestrial life.
Arnold described that the objects looked like"saucers skipping on water," which resulted in a newspaper reporting that they were"saucer shaped" objects. This is where the term"flying saucer" comes from.
