The Pentagon will house about 2,500 Afghans at a military base in eastern Virginia as the first part of a White House plan towho worked with U.S. forces during the war and, along with their families, face likely retribution from Taliban fighters, officials said Monday.
The interpreters and relatives will be flown to Fort Lee, Va., for short-term housing while awaiting processing for special immigrant visas allowing them to remain in the U.S., officials said Monday.
