'It’s just crazy and petty'
A pensioner from Wythenshawe has blasted ‘crazy and petty’ Manchester council after being told she would need to pay for a new wheelie bin.
“We asked for a swap but the supervisor said no,” she explained. Reportedly, the manager told the resident she would have to fork out for her bin, to the tune of ‘£23’.That incensed the pensioner: “We want a new one but why should we pay for it? It’s their decision that we cannot have it. Currently, the council charges £23 to replace a general waste bin if the original is missing or damaged. It will replace recycling bins for free.
They also apologised to the pensioner for a ‘misunderstanding’, accepting communication with residents wasn’t good enough. A statement said: "Firstly we apologise for any misunderstanding with this resident regarding a new bin.
